The School of Political Science and Laws was founded as a result of a memo issued by Dr.Keerath Sanguansai, then-WU President, on October 17, 2011, requesting collaboration for the development of the university’s official project “the Establishment of New School.” This initiative was in line with Walailak University’s strategy of producing graduates who can satisfy the needs of the local Southern Thai society, as well as the university’s initial goal of becoming a comprehensive university.

The University’s Development Framework (2011-2015), section 2.2 on the formation of new schools in social science or politics and government, was also a driving force behind the creation of the School of Political Science and Laws. The new programs were expected to enroll up to 850 students in September 2016. As a result, the Political Science Program was formed initially, and it became a core part of the early development of new social science programs in order to ensure that they were successful, adaptable, and capable of meeting their objectives. Later, the School of Political Science and Laws was formed, and it was envisioned as a key institution for producing fundamental political, legal, and administrative knowledge to meet community and local needs.
