Dr. Wachiraporn Poungjinda, a Laws Program lecturer, was granted a funding from Walailak University for her truly interesting research project titled “The Professional Media Organization Structure Reform Concerning the Ethics Controlling for Health Information Presentation of Emerging Infectious Diseases (EIDs) Spreading in Thailand.”

This research project is based on Thailand’s legislative amendments pertaining to the ethical control of journalism in the provision of health news on the EID pandemic. The amendments seek to bring the legislation up to international standards and to establish it as an autonomous system free of government and commercial involvement. Furthermore, the structure and technique of acquisition of professional media organization committees were determined by recruiting persons with expertise or experience that would be valuable in media performance.

The primary goal of the research was to examine how to reform the organizational structure of the mass media profession in relation to this problem, which might have a significant impact on people getting information about illness prevention and personal safety. At the same time, the study was intended to provide recommendations for effectively resolving difficulties, in accordance with Thai legal procedure, that may develop in Thailand in the future.
