The Political Science Program Offers a Skill-Development Activity for Academic Writing and Referencing

April 1, 2022

Because the ability to write academic work including accurate references is an important foundation for studying and working in various subjects, and such problems are still witnessed on a regular basis, the Political Science Program’s staffs organized a workshop for students to practice writing and academic references skills on Wednesday, March 9, 2022 via the Zoom Meeting.

The session began by explaining how plagiarism and lack of citations could be a significant issue, before informing students why references are necessary and training them on the proper way of referencing. The lecturers of the program then provided lessons and directions by displaying examples of improper and proper writing.

Alongside the lectures, there were also training exercises. The students practiced writing in small groups by organizing and referencing the three written pieces. The subsequent activity, which took place on March 16, 2022, was a presentation of their practice works. In the second workshop, there was a discussion between the students and the lecturers in charge of the activity on how the students’ work may be improved.

This activity was somewhat fruitful. Each student group was actively practicing and presenting its own work. The program anticipated that this exercise would improve students’ writing while they studied other courses in the future.
