May 7, 2021

Wilasinee Rakmoomas, an ASEAN Studies Program student at the School of Political Science and Laws, produced an Indonesian-language piece titled “Menenteng Anyaman Yan Lipoa, Thailand” (Carrying a Lipao Woven Bag in Thailand), which was published in the Surya newspaper on March 21, 2021.

Wilasinee described Nakhon Si Thammarat as a major province in southern Thailand with a long history and a reputation for culture, arts, and craftsmanship in this article. Lipao wickerwork is one of the most well-known handicrafts in the country. Her article includes information on the history of handicraft in Lipao, which dates back to the Ayutthaya era, original designs of weave knitting, and even a list of communities in Lipao that are well-known in foreign countries.

Surya is the most widely read daily in East Java, Indonesia. The publication also focuses on learning about and comprehending other countries’ societies and cultures, such as Thailand. Many of the ASEAN Studies Program students’ Indonesian language articles have been published in these newspapers. These articles are the result of an Indonesian language class taught by Indonesian lecturers at the State University of Malang during the second and third semesters of the 2020 academic year.
